Jacob was a fairly easy kid to potty train except for night time. We tried the don't drink anything before bedtime thing, and make sure he went a few times before he went to bed. We even tried to take him to the bathroom before we went to bed a a few hours after he had gone to sleep, but that still didn't work.
We had finally just excepted that he would probably be one of those kids that struggles with bed wetting.
He didn't like that he had to wear a pull-up and occasionally we would hear him get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and on those night he was dry. However he would not get up every night, and so we even thought about getting him an alarm clock that would wake him up. He didn't like that idea so instead we set our alarm clock for 2am and got up with him. Zeke and I sleep pretty soundly, so getting up at 2am was a little bit of a struggle for us. Sometimes one of us would turn off the alarm without even realizing it, other times we would stagger down the hall to his room thinking this is so hard. Then one day as we were talking about it, Lydia suggested that she get up with Jacob. She had an alarm clock and she thinks it would be fun to get up in the middle of the night. Jacob and her love to have sleepovers in her bedroom, so he was thrilled with the idea and so was she, and we didn't seem to mind it as well too. The only condition was that she would need to send him in to our bathroom so we could see that he came, and she could wait outside the door.
Lydia got Jacob up once a night for two weeks and he has never wore pull ups again. We felt a little guilty about having Lydia do all the work, but she really did like getting up with him and she loved that she was the one that made the difference.
